OJ Simpson
Unless you’ve been living under a rock or within the folds of Rosie O’Donnell’s fat (why would I attack her? that’s so uncalled for. oh well) for the last few days, you know that OJ Simpson once again was in jail. I say “was” because he posted the $125k bail today, reportedly with the help of a bondsman who was so excited to have OJ as a client that he had OJ sign his shirt. Lame. But anyways, the point I was going to make was that at first the media was all up in OJ’s face, wanting to know all the details, etc., and now it seems as though the current media trend, only a few days later, is to try to not care about OJ and his legal trouble, as if that particular media outlet is better than those covering the story. The only problem though is these shows going off about “who cares about OJ” rant for a few minutes on why we shouldn’t care, and list bigger things for us to worry about, they then go ahead and give updates as to the latest developments. Why is this?
I think it’s sort of like the proverbial car wreck. Everybody wants to not care and look away, but we all at the same time want to see what happened, how bad the damage is, and what might happen. Because let’s face it: we all want OJ to go down. And since these latest charges, including armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, and others (a total of 10 felonies in all as well as some lesser crimes), could finally get this guy what those who aren’t for the death penalty think he’s been deserving ever since back in 1992 (or whenever): life in prison. I know I hope he gets this. And on top of this, there may even be some sort of involuntary manslaughter charge since one of the victims had a heart attack and is still in the ICU.
Was it a set up? Isn’t he just a guy trying to get his stuff back? Maybe so, but the point is that what he did wasn’t legal. And for that, he should pay. And we all want him to, but moreso for the murders of his wife and Ron Goldman. We all know this guy is pure evil – he just wrote his “If I Did It” book describing in detail how he would have committed the double murder, had he done it, for the world (and two kids) to read. What a freaking scumbag. That’s why we’re all so interested. That’s why the news thinks they’re better than that to report on this story but still do.
All I’m trying to say is that no matter what people say, they’re interested, and will listen. And read. And watch. Maybe not for everybody, like Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears or Donald Trump, but for OJ, people will watch. He’s the one that got away, and we all want him to go down. We’ll all leave it on the channel an extra couple seconds to read the latest breaking news on the bottom of the screen while flipping channels. We’ll all skim the latest headline if it’s on the page in front of us. And we’ll all click on the “read more” link on websites like this to find out what others think. We’re interested, and even though would rather not have to hear about OJ, like that car crash can’t turn away.
