Hometown fans just don’t get it.

I have ben getting a hard time the last few days from people back in the Cuse because I have not freaked out about the Mets collapse over the last 2 weeks. They don’t get it because back there baseball is beyond a sport, it’s religion.

Let me elaborate on al this. First I NEVER said I was not a fan anymore. I will always be a fan. What these people will never get is that when you live in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and nobody around you gives a s*it about sports (besides Surfing and HS Football) you tend to lose interest yourself. Sure I am still a fan but in the past I would have freaked out about it where now I just get pissed for 3 minutes and then it’s whatever. Same thing last year after the playoffs. I was over it in a hour.

For those who don’t know, there isn’t much going on in my hometown so sports is all there is. I was the same way when I lived there. Especially for SU sports. But when you leave and discover a whole other world of things to do and people that don’t care those sports obsessions start to die down. If I ever brought some of my non-NY friends back home they would be like WTF is going on here? After 1996 the entire town became NY Yankee fans. Obnoxious Yankee fans. So as a Met fan that amped up my Met love too. It’s like it’s the only thing they have on you. If the only thing you have over me in life is your favorite team is better than mine….it’s all you buddy.

Anyway I will always be a fan and maybe when I get back to the mainland I will be as amped as I used to. If it doesn’t happen that’s ok too. But the way these people work, if my fav team ever wins anything I will be accused of not being a “real fan” and I won’t deserve it. Even though half of them didn’t even own a Yankee hat till October 1996 and most were Mets fans in the 80’s. If you don’t watch every game start to finish you are not a “real fan.” Fucked.

It’s one of those things where you just tell yourself…”They don’t get it.” How could they? Then after the game I walk out my front door…down the street and there is the beautiful scenery of the ocean, women, life and a whole world that could give a shit about who won. It’s refreshing.

I will ALWAYS be a fan. If the Mets or SU lose every game, that sucks and I will be mad. But is it so bad that I am not obsessed like that anymore? Nope, it’s actually a good thing. You win…you are better than me because *insert team* won and mine didn’t. Great, enjoy. I am.

I get it perfectly bro….I love sports, but life has much more to it than the Yankees, Syracuse, and the Redskins…I’m sure if I lived in Hawaii, I’d be ahuge surfing fan and have all their tradin’ cards….lol. Maybe next year bro!

Honestly, I don’t think it matters where the hell you live or where you are from. There are douchebags everywhere that talk, talk, talk, talk about how good their team is and they also love to trash other teams because they have no life.
I can’t stand Boston, but I don’t spend all my time sitting around whining about what the Red Sox are doing or what their highest paid players aren’t doing. Why? Don’t give a fu#k, I have other things to do. If David Ortiz or Manny Ramirez were making $25,000,000 a year, well good for them. I could care less what that organization does with their money because I am not jealous of the fact that as we speak, they are gearing up for the AL pennant.. Oh look, I have some coffee to drink and a lot of work to do. lol…

Yeah nob gobbling is out. Like I have always said…at the end of the day…we’re all fans….short for fanatics….so we’re all gonna get out of line at some point and then we’ll hop back into the reality that is our lives. Then we’ll all sit back and realize that it doesn’t matter at all if our teams win the World Series….cuz all that matters is that we’re breathing and we’re healthy….if you’ve got that…the World Series is just a bonus.
