Capital Punishments Paused in US

I read an article today from the LA Times saying that executions nationwide have been temporarily halted because of arguments in the Supreme Court regarding the cuelty of lethal injections. Opponents of lethal injection as an execution method are saying that the process, which is a three- step injection of an anesthetic, paralizer, and heart stopper, has potential to lead to a very painful death if the anesthetic doesn’t take effect as it should. They also say that because of the second syringe that paralyzes the convict, we may not know if he is suffering during the painful stoppage of the heart that the third syringe causes because he is unable to react or speak. Justice Scalia rejects this idea, and challenges the opponents for a method that is better, suggesting there isn’t one.

Personally, I say who gives a crap. They shouldn’t even administer the first syringe at all.

I mean seriously, look at the crimes one can commit to receive the death penalty: murder or civil rights, terroristic, or certain felonies resulting in death; espionage; treason; or trafficking large quantities of drugs. So it’s not like we’re killing people who run a red light or swipe a candy bar from 7-11. To my knowledge, nobody has ever even received the death penalty for trafficking drugs. And, unless it’s a very brutal murder, the death penalty usually isn’t even recommended. Basically, we’re talking about the lowest of the low – the people we don’t want here anyway, who have killed multiple people, who serially rape, torture, and kill women and children, and, in my opinion, deserve to die anyways. So what’s wrong with giving them a painless death? To me, they should die in the same way that they killed. The torturers and rapists should have that same thing done to them. OJ should be turned into a human Pez despenser. Dahmer should have been suffocated and fed to pigs. Saddam – electrocuted and tortured to death. To me, a painless injection is getting off way too easy. Shoot, even a heart attack, which the third syringe causes, is getting off way too easily.

Not that killing the killers will right anything, or even bring the victims back, but at least we can rest assured that they get their due when all is said and done. These are truly society’s rejects – and when they commit these crimes they lose all rights and liberties, including the right to live. Get rid of them, sure. But getting rid of them in a painless way isn’t satisfying.

I realize the Constitution’s prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment, which I agree with, but really think there should be an exception for capital punishment cases. At least keep it around, even if it’s going to be painless, such as lethal injection. But if they do have to suffer a little bit, all the better. I just don’t understand how any rational person can still be aruging for the rights or fair treatment of these terrorists and murdering a-holes. I want to tell them all to have their mothers murdered, or their 5 year old daughters raped and tortured by some psycho, then come back and tell me you don’t want that douchebag to die, especially in a painless way. Seriously, they all need a good hard slap.
