Canadian group Barenaked Ladies has cancelled the remainder of their summer tour and appearance on Disney’s Music Block Party recently after Singer/Guitarist Steven Page was arrested for cocaine posession mid July. According to The Canadian Press, Page was arrested in Syracuse, NY following an argument with his current girlfriend, Christine Benedicto.
Stephanie Ford, 25, had told police that she and her friend Page had snorted white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine in her apartment, and that the capsules marked “calcium” they were in belonged to Page. According to Ford, all this happened after Page and Benedicto got into an argument in a local bar when she was flirting with another guy.
This is the first major problem with the law that the band has faced since forming nearly 20 years ago. The rest of the band has said they support Page, but don’t want to put Disney in an awkward position by performing at the scheduled event.
Page is set to appear in court August 26.
