This is a sad image for Mets fans. The famous scoreboard at Shea was the stadiums calling card for so long. For years until this whole new generation of state of the art stadiums the Shea scoreboard was it. It was also the gauge for so many monster home runs. “Putting one off the scoreboard” was a big deal and the higher up, obviously the more impressive the blast. Strawberry, Piazza and many more peppered the scoreboard with mammoth hr’s for years. Who will forget Mark Mcgwire taking out the lights of the board with one of his performance enhanced bombs back in the day? But it’s bittersweet because although in the background you see the future, Citi Field, it is still a sad sight to see the scoreboard come down like this.
